What should I do when I receive a Soldier’s counseling packet that is missing counseling statements?

I recently received a Soldier in my squad. His counseling packet was missing several monthly counseling statements. What should I do about this?

When you receive a Soldier from someone else one of the first things you should do is review their counseling packet.  If the packet is missing documents I would encourage you to speak with the previous leader if possible to determine how and why the counselings may have come up missing.  After completing this step you need to document the status of the packet.

Course of Action(s) to Consider

Prepare a memorandum for record. It might read something like:

On this date____{INSERT DATE}, I assumed responsibilities for counseling __{INSERT RANK/NAME}.  Upon review of this counseling packet I found the following documents missing:  __{INSERT LIST OF DOCUEMNTS}.  I followed up with his previous leader:  ____{INSERT RANK/NAME}, he stated that:   1.  The documents were in the packet when the Soldier out processed  2. He had failed to counsel the Soldier on the dates I found missing.
