Army Directive 2016-07 did away with a recovery period of twice the length of the profile. Therefore it is possible to receive an APFT after you complete the profile period.
Army Directive 2016-07 states:
(3) Soldiers will no longer have an automatic recovery period after the
termination of their temporary profiles. Additionally, temporary profiles will no longer include the military physical profile serial system (PULHES) characterization. Temporary profiles with MRC and DL characterizations will be for duration only. When renewing a temporary profile, profiling officers will update the functional activities the Soldier can perform. An appropriate physician will review temporary profiles lasting 180 days or longer.
i was on profile for about 5-6 months form a torn ligament in my ankle. I was in a boot for 4 of those month and came out of the boot in November of 2015. and my profile ended in December. I was never issue another one because we went back to m- day status and the doctor said my recovery period will allow me to heal properly but what is my recovery period if i was injured for that length of time and im on the list for a pt test this coming friday and i don’t believe this is gonna end in my favor because i was instructed not to do any physical activity until i had an mri done?
So I had surgery 5Feb and I’m still in recovery. Now my unit is having a height and weight next month and I’m only supposed to do what physical therapy has me doing. My question is can they still do height and weight on me even though I can’t do pt like normal?
If I was not present for the reading of the standards for the APFT can I still be given a record APFT
I got off a temporary profile 7 November and was ordered to a record APFT on 17 December that has now moved to 9 December. My issue is I am still going through physical therapy until the end of December. Is this a legal order to have done while still in this medical process?
IAW with AR 350-1 and FM 7-22 you get twice the length of your profile to recover. You cannot take an APFT during the recovery period. If you are still going through Physical Therapy and the doctor believes you are at risk of injuring yourself the doctor can simply extend the profile.
Hope this Helps!

I was on profile for 15 days, it was extended another 7, does that increase the recovery time?
Based on the information you provided you have been on profile for a total of 22 days. You have a total of 44 days recovery before you can take a FOR RECORD APFT. You can still be required to take a Diagnostic APFT to gauge your current status. Reference for this post are FM 7-22, AR 350-1 Appendix G, and AR 40-501
