I have a Soldier that arrived at the unit and the BN will not let the Soldier take PTDY for house hunting but they allow everyone else to do it. What can I do as the commander?

This response is provided based on the information you shared and should not be used as the sole source for making a decision. You should seek guidance from the chain of command, IG, JAG or other certified agencies before making any decisions. How you chose to use this information is totally up to you and is your sole responsibility.

PTDY is granted by the command and is not a requirement. Fighting the system can be time consuming and cause bad blood. Another option would be for the company commander to simply put the Soldier on pass for a few days. For example let them take a 4 day pass. Come to work for a day and give them another 4 day pass. If that is not workable the Soldier’s immediate supervisor could consider giving the Soldier the day off. The Soldier would come to first formation or report to their duty location and then be released for the day with the understanding the supervisor must be able to reach them at any time.
