The Mentor - A Comprehensive Guide to Army Counseling and Leadership

I received an Article 15 with Extra Duty. I started it and then we went to the field. My commander said my extra duty was paused while in the field is this correct?

Company Command: The Bottom Line - Army Leadership Guide
This response is provided based on the information you shared and should not be used as the sole source for making a decision. You should seek guidance from the chain of command, IG, JAG or other certified agencies before making any decisions. How you chose to use this information is totally up to you and is your sole responsibility.

AR 27-10 paragraph 3-19b(7) states:

Once commenced, deprivation of liberty punishments will run continuously, except where temporarily interrupted due to the fault of the Soldier, or the Soldier is physically incapacitated, or an appeal is not acted on as prescribed in paragraph 3–21b (see para 3–21c regarding the circumstances when deprivation of liberty punishments, imposed in separate NJP proceedings may run consecutively.)

This means the extra duty must run continuously and should have continued while you were in the field.

If 14 days have elapsed then the extra duty is considered over. You should verify this with your Local JAG.

Hopefully I have provided you some useful information!
