Will my SFC board look favorably on SSD course completion?

I have completed Level I, III, and IV SSD courses. Will this be a positive factor for the SFC board or will they not even notice that I took the initiative?

The Board Master - Army Promotion Board Study Guide

Greetings from Afghanistan!

It would be hard to say how much the SFC board would take the initiative into consideration, especially since this is a somewhat new thing being implemented. However, my take on it is that any initiative toward progress and professional development will be taken into consideration.

The main question probably is “How will the board even know?

Two things that we do know are:

  1. SSD is a computer based training course therefore it is not listed in Section VI, the hours are just rolled up into the Correspondence Course Total # of Hours.
  2. It doesn’t meet the criteria for a letter to the President of the Board.

So again, “How will the board even know?” The only way I can think of to make it noticeable is to ensure it is stated on the NCOER under Competence (seeking self-improvement; always learning), Leadership (setting the example; Be, Know, Do) or Training (individual and team).

    To whom it may concern,

I uploaded mine unto the Official Military Personnel File (OMPF)and it is noticeable for the board to see that they are completed, even though the new ALARACT specifies that it will not be considered a mandatory element until FY14. However, most Seniors will tell you that putting it on your NCOER does help in the event you were too late in uploading the information onto Iperms/OMPF. The board will notice and use it as a tool to separate the best from the best if its down to the wire. Good thing you completed SSD I thru IV, However SSD I is not required at all. Only III, and IV. I’m just waiting for V to open up so I can complete it as well.

How did you upload it onto your OMPF? Is there a single certificate on ALMS that says you completed it?

yes, once completed you will recieve a certificate, if not, you may request it thru the ALMS helpdesk. like 1SG Fonseca said. its not the deciding factor but it does help.

    My opinion, just my opinion.

That’s just like when I had peers quickly doing the ANCOC (SLC Back then) to have something their peers didn’t and still were non selected.

So, I think its the requirement but not viewed as oh look he has all these SSDs completed. Congrats on having them all done, just one more positive on your records.
