How often do reserve Soldiers have to take a PT test?

I am new to the reserves. I was active duty and know the requirements for the PT Test for AD but what are the requirements for the Reserves?

Counsel Quick - Army Counseling Software

AR 350-1 states:

Soldiers in RC troop program units (TPUs) will take the APFT at least once each calendar year. A minimum of 8 months will separate record tests if only one test is given, with no more than 14 months between record tests. Soldiers that require makeup testing or re-testing for an APFT failure are exempt from the 8-month rule.

Can you fail a soldier for failing a PT test, if they intentionally missed BA so they didn’t have to take it. I recently attended a pre command course and this was brought up, but I haven’t been able to find it in the regulations.

I see no way you could fail a Soldier on an APFT if they never took the APFT. That would be like saying a person who meets body weight requirements failed the weigh-in because they were not present.
However, there is a comment in AR 350-1 Appendix G-9 that allows for special treatment of individuals that fail to take their APFT. Specifically it states:
      paragraph G-9m(6)

Soldiers who fail a record APFT for the first time or fail to take a record APFT within the required period will be flagged in accordance with AR 600–8–2. In the event of a record test failure, commanders may allow Soldiers to retake the test as soon as the Soldier and the commander feel the Soldier is ready. Soldiers without a medical profile will be retested no later than 90 days following the initial APFT failure. Reserve component Soldiers not on active duty and without a medical profile will be tested no later than 180 days following the initial APFT failure.

      paragraph G-9l. States:

      l. Soldiers without medical profiles, who repeatedly fail the APFT, or fail to take the APFT with no authorized waiver within the required time will be barred from re-enlistment or processed for separation from the service. Provisions for separation are in AR 600–8–24 (for officers) or AR 635–200 (for enlisted Soldiers) and counterpart ARNG and USAR regulations. A repetitive failure occurs when a Soldier fails a record test, the Soldier is provided adequate time and assistance to improve his or her performance, and failure occurs again. (See AR 600–8–24 for officers who have incurred a statutory active duty service obligation because of participation in an Army-sponsored educational or training program.)

If the Soldier fails to show up simply flag them and either bar them to reelisment or consider processing them for separation.

        CSM,
I a SGT in the Army Reserves. While there is no regulation for it; I have seen it many times where a soldier will not show up to BA and are given a failing APFT. Generally this occurs only because the soldier constantly tries to duck out of APFTs. They are not failed because they missed the test. They are failed because they were given a lawful order to take one.
