Can I pin on my new rank before showing up to my new unit?

I am currently on PCS leave and made cutoff for SSG. Do I sew the rank on my uniform before signing in to my new duty station or wait until I sign in? I am trying to get a copy of my promotion orders from my previous Battalion, but I am unsure if they are going to get a copy to me before my report date. What is the "Right" thing to do in this situation?

Company Command: The Bottom Line - Army Leadership Guide

Recommend you show up with your current rank unless you have orders.  Your chain of command may take a dim view if you pin on yourself.  Another recommendation might be to call your gaining unit or show up early in civilian clothes and ask if they can give you orders so you can pin on.  Explain you would like to show up with your new rank rather than be pinned in formation so that you are seen as a SSG rather than a newly promoted SGT.
