Are Army Correspondence Courses still eligible for promotion points?

I have over 1,000 hours of Army Correspondence Courses. Will they still count under the new system?

The Board Master - Army Promotion Board Study Guide

Fortunately, they will still earn promotion points. However, you must complete the entire correspondence course and possess a certificate of completion in order to get the points. Sub-courses on their own will not count for promotion points. I suggest you take a look at your course history on the ATIA website to see how many full courses you have actually completed and determine how many points you will have under the new ststem.

The ATIA website’s address is www.adtdl.army.mil/.

    PFC Lawson,

If you are using skillport to do the Army E-learning courses, I suggest doing all the courses listed under “desktop curricula”. They are quite easy and one course doesn’t take long.

Okay, so I know I’m a bit late on replying to this, but the basic idea is, theres no method to the madness of picking which correspondance course to do? Its just random?

I think PFC Lawson is asking if there is some sort of roadmap they can use to plan which classes to attack first. Some kind of strategy to help prioritize the process.

Do you have any input on this, Mackie?

        PFC Lawson,

There is no sort of “road map” or “cheat sheet” to the process. You basically shoose on your own which courses you want to complete. Arielle’s suggestion is a route I would personallyt ake aside from taking courses that interest me.

Look at the details and if it says minutes then it counts but if it says hours then it doesnt

    One question,
I am an initial term soldier, and want to start doing correspondence courses. I understand the process of signing up for them, accessing them, and printing the certificate of completion thanks to SFC “Mackie” but I am still left with one thing that confuses me..
How do I know WHAT courses to choose?
If anyone could help me out I would greatly appreciate it.
    Thanks!

I have a secondary mos that I have from being prior service, is it possible to get points from that mos since I am now a 92F?

      Debra,

No it is not. AR 600-8-19, Par 3-44 states:

      b. The following courses are not valid for the awarding of promotion points under military education:
      (1) Completion of BCT, AIT, and new equipment training.

As far I can see this message 11-306 is not fair, specially if you are down range, where you cannot have access to WLC and other military schools but the electronic method – ACCP/eLearning -, so many will not be able to get promoted when deployed. Plus if you don’t mk CDR’s list and or honor grad and if your points to get promoted is stuck on 798 guess what? you are not making since you lose points that you NEVER will have a chance to get again. I’m wondering how long will tk to HRC figure that?

If 390hrs of correspondence courses count for points. How do we max that category out, or is that 390 already maxing this categroy?

I currently have 537 hours of correspondence through Skillport on Army e-Learning. I know of the new change to the promotion system. I am currently sitting at 465 points and for my MOS 31B points are at 525. Do I have until Nov 8th to make the cutoff score for Decemeber 1st promotions, or will I be able to make cutoff scores on Decemeber 8th for January 1st promotions before the change goes into affect?

      SPC Ryan,

The change takes effect for 1 Jan promotions. Therefore, all your correspondence course hours will count for 1 Dec promotions (Nov 8th cut-off). For 1 Jan promotions (Dec 8th cut-off), only 390 of your correspondence course hours will be eligible for points.

My Unit S1 told me that the promotion point system for ACCP courses will change and will only allow you to max out at 80 promotion points for those courses, instead of maxing out with correspondence courses in the military education part, section b, and it would take effect in December 2011 or January 2012, how true is this fact because i am over 107 pts at 538 hours and I am wondering if I should continue or stop cuz i am currently at 131 points gained in that category.

Ban, that is a true statment, i have the new message in my hand stating that the military ed portion and all the course hours are going to change around once again so it would be in your best intrest to get promoted before or right at jan 2012.

my question is if i can do 1400 hours through skillport and still get 280 points.

      Ban,

MILPER MSG 11-306 identifies the changes that will be implemented for awarding Military Education Points for promotions effective 1 Jan 2012. The message states “COMPUTER BASED TRAINING. ALL NON-RESIDENT MILITARY TRAINING INCLUDING ARMY CORRESPONDENCE COURSE PROGRAM (ACCP), DISTANCE LEARNING (DL) AND ARMY E-LEARNING. THE MAXIMUM POINTS IN THIS CATEGORY IS ADJUSTED TO 78 POINTS FOR PROMOTION TO SGT AND 84 POINTS FOR PROMOTION TO SSG.”

In summary, you can max out correspondence courses for 1 Dec 2011 promotions. Come 1 Jan 2012, only 78 points to SGT and 84 points to SSG will count towards your score.

As far as I know and based on the Army G1 brief, it pertains to the AC and USAR components only. I cannot honestly tell you how ARNG promotion work but I will make an attempt and send some e-mails out.
