My unit is requiring family members speak with the chain of command to get to know them better. Do I have to do this?

This response is provided based on the information you shared and should not be used as the sole source for making a decision. You should seek guidance from the chain of command, IG, JAG or other certified agencies before making any decisions. How you chose to use this information is totally up to you and is your sole responsibility.

I can appreciate how you feel…the military is different than other employment.

The command needs to be able to know and understand family members to better serve their needs especially when the unit is deployed.

If you don’t want to participate this is something you might consider discussing with the chain of command and/or the 1SG/CDR on open door policy.

I don’t know of any regulation that requires them to get to know your family. There are policies that require you take proper care of them and that they are self sufficient during deployments and training.
