Your S1 is correct about double tapping, plus the fact that there are two types of military education codes: “Correspondence CRS Total # Hrs” and correspondence/distant learning.
When a resident course code is used, the course name and year completed is listed under Section VI of the ERB. When a correspondence/distant learning course is used, the course name and year will not appear, however the “Correspondence CRS Total # Hrs” will update with the appropriate number of hours. So if your S1 were to use a “resident course code” for a correspondence course, they would be absolutely wrong.
Now I’ll try to explain the double tapping part by way of example.
Scenario:
Soldier completed CLS online and ATRRS transfered the points onto the ERB under “Correspondence CRS Total # Hrs”. Soldier went to S1 and they updated his ERB with CLS using the resident course code. CLS showed up into Section VI and the system automatically awarded more points. Now the Soldier was awarded points twice for the same course.

So with all this said, there are no computer based classes that can be counted as residential training? Only correspondence? I am maxed out on correspondence, but was wondering if there was any courses that I could take on the computer to count as military training.

I am currently going through the same issue with my S1 and they informed me of the same thing. To me, it doesn’t make sense to have ERB codes if ATRRS updates everything automatically now. If that is the case what are ERB codes used for? I have seen on numerous individuals ERB’s, courses such as Support Operations Course Phase 1, ERB code of UDQ. If only residence courses go in that portion then why are there codes for correspondence courses? On another note, there is a course such as the Information Assurance Certification LVL 1 with the ERB code of EQN. This is not a residency course,a correspondence course, nor is it a course dealing with ATRRS. But it goes in the Military Education portion of the ERB. If anyone one can assist with this matter, it will be gladly appreciated.

If a course has both correspondence and resident codes, then the course exists (or existed) in both methods of instruction. The S1 would input the code which pertains to the method of instruction the Soldier received. In regards to the “Information Assurance Certification LVL 1 Course”, what criteria did you use to determine that it is not a resident or correspondence course?
A correspondence course is correspondence courses are “computer based training” and a resident course is learned in a classroom environment. Sometimes there are courses that are offered in both ways… CLS being one example. AR 600-8-19 specifically states that “duplicate military correspondence and military education courses” are “not valid for the awarding of promotion points under military education”. We know that ATRRS is “supposed to” automatically transfer over to the PPW, but we all know that is not always the case. There are some exceptions such as correspondence courses completed prior to 23 Dec 2010, and even some completed after this date will not auto populate per MILPER 11-306. In this case the S1s have to enter the course codes on the ERB. For this reason and I’m sure many others, the two types of codes exist, and the S1 determines which codes to use based on the method of instruction.
