How do I check the status of my service award for my last deployment?

I was submitted for a Bronze Star during my latest deployment. However, since my return I have heard different statuses about my award such as it being approved, downgraded, and even lost. Despite constant communication with my S1, no one can seem to locate my award and give me an accurate status. What should I do?

First, if you haven’t already done so, check your OMPF. Oftentimes your S1 will send up a completed award to HRC for posting to Soldiers’ OMPFs without the Soldier’s knowledge. If you cannot find the award in your OMPF and all other attempts to locate the award have failed, the recommender must resubmit the award for processing.

Resubmit the Award for processing

The Army has strict guidelines when it comes to resubmission of lost awards/awards that were not acted upon. Paragraph 1-15 of AR 600-8-22 covers the procedures and the guidelines. If you and your chain-of-command have exhausted all means in search of the award, then the best thing to do is to resubmit it at the earliest opportunity.

Contact your wartime chain of command

Because it is a wartime award, the processing is slightly different. The award will have to go through your current peacetime chain-of-command and then it will have to go through your wartime chain-of-command for their endorsements. If your wartime chain-of-command is no longer in your unit, all efforts must be made to contact them. If contact cannot be made, create a memorandum for record stating the reason contact could not be made and documenting the steps the unit took to make contact. The memorandum must accompany the award when submitting it to HRC for final approval.
