This is an example MOI for the Sergeant Audie Murphy Club (SAMC) & Dr. Mary E. Walker Award Selection Board for a US Army Garrison. It contains detailed information for recommending NCOs for membership in the SAMC and nominating someone for the Dr. Mary E. Walker award prior to convening the SAMC and Dr. Mary E. Walker Award Selection Board (which are the same gruop of people). Induction and membership in the SAMC is a reward for NCOs whose leadership achievements and performance merit special recognition. The SAMC is a means of recognizing those NCOs who have contributed significantly to the development of a professional NCO Corps and a combat-ready Army. Members exemplify leadership characterized by personal concern for the needs, training, development and welfare of soldiers, and concern for their families. The Dr. Mary E. Walker award is not part of the Department of the Army awards program and should not compete with other established awards. It will not be used in lieu of awards for commendation, meritorious service, or routine departure, or as an interim awards while awaiting a Department of the Army award. Dr. Mary E. Walker award is not a short term or single event recognition. An individual may receive only one award.
