This regulation outlines the responsibilities for operation of the Investigative Records Repository and identifies the categories of materials authorized for IRR custody. It provides policies and procedures for the storage, maintenance, transmission, review, and systematic reduction of those records; establishes the appropriate uses to be made of IRR materials; and defines the procedures by which Department of Defense and other official consumers may gain access to IRR holdings. The Investigative Records Repository is a Department of the Army Records Center that serves as the repository for intelligence, counterintelligence, security investigative, and operational records; related files that meet the criteria of this regulation; and  required references created by or for the DA.
