How long can we wait between APFT events?

Are there any time limits on conducting a PT test? I want to know how long we can pause between the events.

The Board Master - Army Promotion Board Study Guide

In order for a PT test to be valid:

  • Rest periods between events must be at least 10 minutes but no more than 20 minutes.
  • Total test time cannot exceed two hours (from the first push-up performed to the last Soldier crossing the finish line of the 2-mile run event).

    Hello,
I am in the National Guard RSP program in Milan, TN. We take a PT test every drill. This past drill I did ok on my pushups and situps but on my run I gased out and missed the run by 6 seconds due to not having proper rest between events. I am very upset about this because I have never failed a PT test.

      Michael,
If you believe the you failed the PT test as a result of lack of time between events I would suggest the following:
      1. Speak with your 1SG on the matter. He may not be aware of all the requirements for the PT test with regard to time limitations.
      2. If this was a diagnostic test there should be no concerns.
      3. If it was a record test and you believe you can pass the test speak with your 1SG and see if he will allow you to take the test during the next drill cycle.
