What does my Reenlistment Code mean?

I have a 9E reup code. What does that mean?

Understanding the meaning and the status of your reenlistment code is important.  They impact your ability to remain in service and also have an impact on reassignments, promotions, reclassification, ability to attend school (Civilian/Military), retirement and can impact your family members ability to travel with you to overseas locations.

Here is a list of REUP Codes with a brief explanation.

9M, Approved Retirement under Qualitative Management Program (QMP). (1)

9U, Approved Retirement under Qualitative Service Program (QSP). (2)

9L,Involuntary Separation under Qualitative Management Program (QMP). (3)

9J,Involuntary Separation under Qualitative Service Program (QSP). (4)

12, Approved Retirement under Temporary Early Retirement Authority (TERA). (5)

9T, Approved Involuntary Separation. (6)

9Y, Retirement (Application for retirement has been approved). (7)

9C, Denied Retention by SA – Commander Quality (restricted to fully qualified Soldiers “IMREPR 10” who requested and were denied reenlistment by the O-6 Commander). (8)

9F, Denied Retention by Separation Authority (SA) – Force Shaping/Requirements. (9)

9Q, Declination of Continued Service Statement (Refusal to Take Action to Meet Length of Service Requirement (10)

9V, Pending Separation (Command or Soldier initiated separations) (11)

9P, Loss of Qualification in PMOS. (12)

9N, Courts-Martial Conviction (Convicted by one or more Summary, Special, or General Courts Martial). (13)

9K, Field Bar to Reenlistment (A Denial of Reenlistment Imposed below Headquarters, Department of the Army). (14)

9H, Pending MEB/PEB/MMRB. (15)

9R, Pending MAR2. (16)

11, Subject to Involuntary Separation. (17)

9W, Not Eligible Due to SSG NCOER/NCOES Eligibility Requirements. (18)

9B, Adverse Action Flag (Flag Codes A, U, and V). (19)

9Z, Weight (Does not meet acceptable weight standards). (20)

9E, Physical Readiness. (21)

9X, Other (Prohibitions not otherwise identified) (22)

9A, Lost Time (IAW AR 630-10). (23)

9G, Grade (Soldier is within 24 months of ETS and exceeds RCP for Current Grade). (24)

9I, Non-Promotable Status (IAW AR 600-8-19) (25)

9D, Pending Security Clearance Determination. (26)

9S, Conscientious Objector (except CMF 68). (27)

9O, Age (Restricted from Retention Due to Maximum Age Limitations). (28)

10, No Disqualification (Fully Eligible for Immediate Reenlistment). (N/A)

    Is their a regulation, directive or Milper message that states all Soldiers of all MOS and ranks are now required to have a security clearance ; all who cannot attain one will be separated from service? If so can you email me this information at monieluv143@gmail.com

      My apologies for the delayed response. Normally a security clearance is required for specific MOSs. To determine the specific security requirements for your MOS and grade I would recommend you contact your Battalion S-2 OIC / NCOIC.     I was given a general discharge under illegal substance abuse. Would that disqualify me from being able to reenlist or would it depend on the type of substance i used? Would the partial legalization of marijuana have an effect?
