What schools can be entered onto my ERB and which ones count towards promotion points?

I recently finished the Military Transition Team course. Can it be entered onto my ERB and does it count towards promotion points?

The Board Master - Army Promotion Board Study Guide

Not all resident courses can be entered onto the ERB and not all courses that can be entered onto the ERB count towards promotion points. The Military Transition Tream training for example can be entered onto the ERB, but does not count towards points. Only courses with course codes can be entered onto the ERB. Attached is a list of resident courses, the far right column of the eligibility list will tell you if they are valid for points or not.

To ensure you are looking at the correct course, please find your course on the Course Code List first, then check for promotion point eligibility on the Course Promotion Point Eligibility roster.

THE COURSES LISTED BELOW (1-17) HAVE A “N” IN THE ATTACHED LIST AS THEY ARE NOT AUTHORIZED 4 POINTS PER WEEK, BUT ARE WORTH 10 POINTS TOTAL.

(1) The Army Maintenance Management System Clerk Course
(2) Prescribed Load List Clerk Course
(3) Motor Pool Operations/Management Course.
(4) Generator Operator Course
(5) Fuel Handlers Course
(6) Basic Welding Course
(7) Forklift Operator Course
(8) Bus Driver Course
(9) Unit Supply Clerk Course
(10) Unit Supply Operations/Management Course
(11) Unit Armorer Course
(12) CBRN Defense Course
(13) Unit Postal Clerk Course
(14) Disk Operating System Course
(15) Word Processing Course
(16) Database Management Course
(17) Unit Level Logistics System Course

    Hello,

Can anyone tell me if CPR certification counts toward promotion points? I saw that under certifications there is a “Emergency Response Certification” that counts for 10 points for my MOS, 19D, and was wondering if CPR counts for that. Thanks!

“Emergency Response Certification” and CPR are two totally different requirements. Emergency Response Certification refers to EMT and CPR is a first responder level certification that in itself doesnt warrant promotion points as it is only a 8 hr course at most.

I am a 68J and i have two 92A working for me. Our entire unit is medical and so they attended BLS and CLS. Why are they not able to add either course to their promotion points? As a medical personnel, i am able to, but they are being told that they cannot. How can one expect to get promoted if some resident courses that are valid for one MOS are not valid for another? Please help us understand this.

      Jaime,

CLS counts towards for promotion points regardless of the Soldier’s MOS. Is someone saying otherwise?

      Please clarify what BLS is?

        Jaime,

If the BLS you are refering to is Basic Life Support, it counts as a Technical Certification and grants 10 promotion point for the following MOSs: 68A, 68G, 68H, 68J, 68K, 68M, 68P, 68Q, 68R, 68S, and 68T.

        Hope this helps.

BLS to my knowledge will not get promotion points, you can get with your S1 to confirm as there is a list of medical certifications that you can get points for under civilain education like EMT or in my case as an X-ray tech the ARRT. This is considered as a “TECHNICAL CERTIFICATION” and goes on your ERB.

CLS gives you credit under military education as it is a 40Hr course. Refer to AR 600-8-19 Enlisted Promotions and Reductions as it breaks down who is and who isn’t eligible

I asked my S-1 and they told me to contact HRC. I am just wondering why they would put that phrase if they arent counting certain courses, and why they are still using a course list from June. I was tracking that this latest message was the most up to date. I have yet to hear back from HRC I doubt it will make a difference and they will say it doesnt count, but I was wondering if they ever got back to you. Thanks for your time

      Justin,

I have not received a response from HRC but thank you for reminding me. I will send a follow-up e-mail in a bit.

      Justin,

I just received a reply from HRC:

“With language courses you get points for the actual test and not the school if it
      was a resident class.”

In my opinion, this still does not clarify why MILPER 11-306 was worded the way it was however this is HRC’s official answer.

Is there a source document that the document you reference is taken from? The MILPER message makes no reference to language courses not counting, and some of them are tracked in ATTRS, which meets the requirements listed in the MILPER message. In the past language course could be used as long as they did not produce the Language Identifier Code (LIC) that is added to a 35P’s MOS. This allowed intermediate and advance courses or conversion course to another language to count. I can’t see anything in the MILPER message that seems to say that these courses shouldn’t count.

Where did the source document come from? Who created it? It feels like it is just someones personnal interpetation of the message.

    • Mackie

      Bill,

That document was provided by the Army G1 Promotions Proponent to the S1Net. I understand you, nor I can find a source document however no matter how much anyone would like to challenge it, the system will not give points for resident language training because they just simply do not count for points.

        Bill,

I was able to get a hold of the policy memorandum that makes the document I originally referenced to, official.

You can find it by clicking on the link below.

        Milper Message Number
        11-306
” 5. CATEGORY 2 – RESIDENT MILITARY TRAINING. INCLUDES ALL RESIDENT
MILITARY TRAINING COURSES LISTED IN ATRRS; DA FORM 87 LIMITED TO SOLDIER
TRAINING COURSES IN AR 350-1; AND ALL TAB-PRODUCING COURSES. MAXIMUM
POINTS IN THIS SECTION IS 78 POINTS FOR PROMOTION TO SGT AND 84 POINTS FOR
        PROMOTION TO SSG. ”

so does this document take place over the source document that was posted on here earlier? If that is the case then the language course should count

Good catch! I will send an inquiry to HRC first thing following this Thanksgiving weekend and keep everyone posted once I receive a reply.

I am currently deployed and have supposedly my S-1 is trying to find a fix for the issue a few soldiers and myself have encountered. Prior to deployment our unit sent us to a 17 week basic Dari course at Fort Carson that was coordinated through DLI. I understand based off of the list you provided that it will not count towards promotion points. my question is, it’s on ATTRS and my ERB. It is not a requirement for my job. Everyone in our class took this seriously and worked really hard. Why would 4 months of classroom instruction not count towards points?

    • Mac Arthur D. "Mackie" Ocampo

      Justin,

The only answer I can provide you is that based on a policy document that was released in November 2010, promotion points are not authorized for numerous types of training to include language training. Personally, I think language training is not allowed points because Soldiers can take the DLPT and earn promotion points that way. But that’s my personal take and really don’t know their rationale behind that decision.

Your S1 can request clarification from HRC at anytime to get a final answer in regards to your inquiry. Who knows, maybe a simple inquiry can lead to a change in policy.

I gave it to the S-1 and they recorded in on my erb. But don’t I get automatic promotion since they got proof of my degree while still in training?

    • Mackie

      avatar

This is something you should further discuss with your S1. Promotions by accession is not covered by AR 600-8-19. Or, since it’s your recruiter that told you that you would get promoted, perhaps give him a call as he may be more knowledgeable on the subject and be able to assist.

      • Mackie

        avatar

My apologies, this is all I can advice you with. Promotions of new recruits can be complicated especially when it can deal with enlistment contracts, etc., and it’s something I have never dealt with directly.

  • Mackie

    avatar

When you say presented “them”, who are you referring to? Have you followed-up? If I were you, I would continue to check up with whomever you gave your transcripts to which I can only assume is your AIT Squad Leader or Platoon Sergeant. I know some people may get agitated when you continue to ask them about something but in the end, it’s your career so you should never hesitate to ask and follow-up.

  • PFC Paul Jackson

    Hello-

I am completing AIT on August 10th(next week). When I enlisted in May, there was some financial problems that prevented me from bringing my transcript and my degree. I was told by my recruiter and the folks at in proccessing that once my degree was received before complketing my AIT, my rank of PFC would be given me.
I have presented them an official transcript but hearing nothing about my promotion. What can I do?

    • Michael Graham

      avatar

It is true that you can be promoted with the right official transcripts but you must have submitted it before 6 months of service has elasped to get the rank and be backed paid according to USAREC 601-210 regulation for incoming recruits.
